The purpose of this website is to address the requirements of the Chavez Bill, provide lesson plan ideas, and a timeline for instruction.

INFORMATION LITERACY & ETHICAL USE
Address the appropriate and ethical use of information technology in the classroom so that students and teachers can distinguish lawful from unlawful uses of copyrighted works, including the following topics:
-ethical use policy in 6th grade
-copyright and citing resources 7th grade
-conduct multi-step information searches in 8th grade
-distinguishing lawful from unlawful downloading and peer-to-peer file sharing in 9th grade
Address internet safety, including how students and teachers will be trained on the following topics:
-protect online privacy and avoid online predators in 6th grade
-avoid cyberbullying in 8th grade
-social networking in 9th grade
The Implementation Plan
The passage of the Chavez Bill (CA Assembly Bill 307) will impact technology planning this year. This bill charges districts to “educate pupils and teachers on the appropriate and ethical use of information technology in the classroom, Internet safety, avoiding plagiarism, the concept, purpose, and significance of a copyright so that pupils can distinguish between lawful and unlawful online downloading, and the implications of illegal peer-to-peer network file sharing.
